Sheffield City Council appoint Bob Johnson as leader of council

Sheffield City Council have appointed a new leader after the resignation of Julie Dore.

Councillor Bob Johnson has become leader of the council, he was appointed at a full council meeting on January 6, Cllr Johnson will take charge until the end of the 2020/21 municipal year.

Cllr Tony Dams nominated Cllr Johnson who previously served on Julie Dore’s cabinet.

Upon his appointment Councillor Robert Johnson paid to tribute to former leader Julie Dore who started the role in May 2011.​ Cllr Door, who represented Arbourthorne began her role as a councillor in 2000.

Cllr Johnson said: “She has led the city through one of the most challenging times in our history.

​He added: “She should be proud of everything she has achieved.

“I’d like to thank her personally for the support and the work that we have done together particularly in the last 18 months in my role as a cabinet member.

The appointment of Cllr Johnson as the council leader has brought one change to the Sheffield City Council cabinet.

​Cllr Julie Grocutt has become the Cabinet member for Transport and Development.​, which was announced at the meeting.
