Handsworth FC vs AFC Mansfield – Match Preview

Handsworth FC will be looking to bounce back from defeat this evening when AFC Mansfield visit Olivers Mount.

The Ambers’ three-match unbeaten ended at the hands of Garforth Town on Saturday.

A crazy opening period in Sheffield brought the game to life quickly, as the Miners sprung into a two-goal lead early on.

James Burgess moved well and finished smartly past Ben Townsend inside six minutes before Sam Burgess doubled the visitors’ lead five minutes later with a header.

Handsworth replied immediately, Ant Mackie got forward from defence to cutely finish past Aaron Burn.

Sam Barker added another Garforth goal after half time before Handsworth’s captain Andrew Gascoigne was sent off for a second bookable offence, Sam Smith was sent to the sin bin following the red card.

AFC Mansfield exited the FA Vase on Saturday at the hands of NWCL Divison One South side Stone Old Alleynians.

The Bulls took a first-half lead, the impressive Ross Duggan added two more goals to his impressive start to the season to give AFC Mansfield a two-goal lead at the interval.

Stone Old Alleynians responded perfectly after half time, coming from behind to win the tie thanks to goals from Jack Tomlinson, Luke Askey and Sam Bradbury.

Today’s visitors have started their NCEL in fine form and will be looking for their fourth consecutive league win before the country’s lockdown comes into force.

The Bulls have won four out of their six NCEL Premier Division games this season, with their only loss against table-toppers Yorkshire Amateur in a narrow 0-1 defeat on the opening day of the NCEL season.

Matt Chatfield has the league’s top goalscorer on hand, Ross Duggan has started brilliantly with an outstanding nine goals in five league games.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:45 pm, with a maximum crowd capacity of 300, due to Covid-19 guidelines.
